Steerage Yearns

Travel, Aviation, and History

About

The steerage is the area of a ship dedicated to the literal steering apparatus of the boat. In turn, the term has been used to more broadly describe the lowest fare-class or the passengers traveling with the cheapest tickets on a voyage. The people traveling in the bowels of a vessel. I prefer aviation to shipping when traveling in the 21st century, but you will almost exclusively find me in the cheapest of seats. The Steerage is also a 1907 photograph by Alfred Stieglitz of just those people boarding a steamer. It is often considered to be one of the greatest photographs of all time as a historic and cultural document but also formative piece of artistic modernism. Why not strive for greatness?
